What this is, and what it isn’t

UK ESA Register is a private business. We are not part of, appointed by, approved by, or affiliated with any government department, local authority, the DWP, or any regulator. No part of the state has reviewed what we sell.

Not ours, and not anyone else’s. There is no statutory register to be listed on, so nobody can put your pet on one. Any business implying otherwise is describing something that does not exist.

UK law recognises trained assistance dogs. Under the Equality Act 2010 an assistance dog supporting a disabled person carries specific protections, including for access to goods and services, and organisations may have to make reasonable adjustments.

An emotional support animal is not the same thing and has no equivalent standing. Calling a pet an emotional support animal does not create rights of access to shops, restaurants, hotels, public transport, or workplaces.

Presenting a pet as a trained assistance dog when it is not can be an offence. Please do not use anything we sell to do that.

In England, since 1 May 2026, section 16A of the Housing Act 1988 — inserted by section 11 of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 — gives a tenant the right to request consent to keep a pet. The landlord must give or refuse that consent in writing within 28 days, and must not refuse unreasonably.

That right belongs to you whether or not you have ever bought anything from us. Our Landlord Pet Request Kit writes the request for you; it does not create the right. The Act’s pet provisions apply in England only.

A landlord cannot require you to take out pet insurance or pay a larger deposit as the price of consent. The clause that would have allowed pet insurance was removed before the Bill passed.

UK airlines are not required to carry emotional support animals in the cabin, and most do not. Assistance dogs are treated differently. Check directly with the airline; nothing we issue changes their policy.
