The microchip is required by law and does one job: if your dog or cat is lost, a scanner at a vet or a rescue links the chip to your details. It says nothing about what the animal is to you, and nobody can read it without the scanner.

A register entry is the paperwork for the rest. It records that this is your emotional support animal, with their name and photo, on a numbered certificate and a wallet card you can show anyone, and on a public page that anyone can check in ten seconds with no equipment. It sits alongside the chip. It does not replace it.

What an emotional support animal is

A pet whose presence helps someone feel better. No task training is required, because being there is the point. It describes a relationship, not a status, and the register records that relationship with a photograph, a name and a number.

Cats, dogs, rabbits, birds: the register takes any animal that lives with you.

  1. Tell us about your pet

    Name, type, breed and date of birth, and a photo if you have one to hand. Without one, both documents say no photograph was supplied, and you can add one once within 14 days of paying.

  2. See it before you pay

    Your register card is drawn on screen with your pet on it, marked as a sample. Only then is there anything to pay.

  3. It arrives in a minute

    Two PDFs by email: a register card at true bank-card size, and a certificate to frame. Both carry the date the entry runs to, printed rather than buried.

Status and limitations

What it does not do

Every registry in this market knows all of that. We put it on the homepage instead of the small print. You can decide what that is worth.

  1. It does not create any legal right to keep a pet, anywhere.
  2. It does not oblige a landlord, airline, shop or hotel to accept your animal.
  3. It is not a medical document, and we ask you no health questions to produce it.
  4. It is not issued or recognised by any government body, because no such register exists.

Renting in England

A register entry is not, in itself, grounds for a landlord’s consent. The route recognised in law is a written request under section 11 of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025. Your landlord is required to respond in writing within 28 days and may not refuse unreasonably. Our free template sets out that request for you to complete.

The awkward ones first

Is this a legal document?

No. It creates no rights and obliges nobody to accept your pet. If a registry tells you otherwise, that is the moment to close the tab.

Will this make my landlord accept my dog?

Not on its own. In England the thing that carries weight is a written request under the Renters’ Rights Act 2025, which your landlord must answer within 28 days and must not refuse unreasonably. Our free template sets out that request for you to complete.

What the Act actually says

Section 16A of the Housing Act 1988, inserted by section 11 of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025: a tenant may keep a pet if the tenant asks in accordance with the section and the landlord consents; consent is not to be unreasonably refused; and the landlord is to give or refuse consent in writing on or before the 28th day after the date of the request.

Do emotional support animals have legal status in the UK?

No. UK law recognises trained assistance dogs under the Equality Act 2010. Emotional support animals have no equivalent standing, and no government register of them exists.

Will you bill me again?

Not without you deciding to. An entry is current for 18 months, which is six months longer than the registries that bill every twelve, and the date it ends is printed on the card. When it passes, nothing is charged and nothing happens: there is no subscription and no card of yours on file. Making a new entry afterwards is a fresh purchase, at whatever it costs then, and entirely your call.

What if I change my mind?

Before you pay, nothing is committed and you can close the tab. Once your documents are delivered the purchase is final, because you keep them, and we say so beside the price. We do not refund a change of mind. If something is faulty or not as described, your statutory rights apply and we put it right. Any refund that is ever made marks the registration inactive, because the credential should always tell the truth.

Do you ask about my mental health?

No, and we never will. We ask no health questions and hold no health data of any kind. Nothing about your circumstances is any of our business.

I already have a microchip. What is this for?

Do I get a physical card?

For now the register card arrives as a file, sized for printing at bank-card size, together with the A4 certificate. We are working on a printed card sent by post. When it is ready we will say so here, and existing entries will be able to order one.
